Fun facts
Dongyangosaurus had special eye-shaped holes in its back vertebrae, called pleurocoels, which helped make its skeleton lighter.1
Its hip bone (pubis) was shorter than its sitting bone (ischium), which is unusual among sauropods.1
The skeleton was found with the bones still connected together, which is rare for dinosaur fossils.1
Dongyangosaurus lived about 92 to 88 million years ago, during the Late Cretaceous period.1
The only known skeleton includes ten back vertebrae, the hip area, and two tail vertebrae.1
Scientists are not sure exactly how Dongyangosaurus is related to other sauropods. Some think it is a saltasaurid, while others place it outside the Lithostrotia group.1
